Whether you’re in your first trimester or third, you may have begun to experience the emotional rollercoaster that comes with pregnancy. If it has led you to wonder whether it’s worth investing in a deeper level of self-care through journaling, the answer is certainly yes, according to experts. “Logging your thoughts can help you to begin developing an attachment to your baby,” explains Lara Honos-Webb, Ph.D., a psychologist in San Francisco.
“If you’re stifling your feelings, or not even beginning to explore your newfound emotions during pregnancy, that’s not natural, and over time that’s going to surface in a wrongful manner,” adds founder, Ann Thomas. Finding the right pregnancy journal, though, can be tricky — there is no universally perfect journal, because every mother-to-be is different, according to Ann. “If you take a one-size-fits-all approach, there are a lot of people who are miserable with it, because what’s comfortable for one person is going to be miserable for another,” she explains, and finding a journal that meets your writing and aesthetic preference is definitely a priority.
That said, there are certain types of prompt journals that make it easier for you to maintain a commitment to your journaling practice. However, should you prefer a more creative process, Ann recommends dot grid journals as grid paper has just the right amount of print to keep things aligned while not distracting from your writing or creativity. Below, a variety of pregnancy journals (and the most adorable milestones kit!) that Ann and other makers in the industry say will help you develop a healthy habit of journaling through your pregnancy.
